The aim of retargeting ads is to recapture the 98% of traffic which doesn\u2019t convert first time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>2016 was the first year that\u00a0<a style=\"color: #b54228; text-transform: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/technology\/2016\/11\/01\/mobile-web-usage-overtakes-desktop-for-first-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">more people accessed the internet via a mobile device rather than a desktop device<\/a>. It\u2019s because of this trend that many businesses are in a mad rush to adjust. Back in 2015,<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2015\/04\/21\/googles-mobile-friendly-update-could-impact-over-40-of-fortune-500\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> 40% of Fortune 500 companies<\/a> did not have mobile-friendly websites, so they\u2019ve pretty much been playing catch-up ever since.<\/p>\n<p>As for retargeting ads, they still have <a style=\"color: #b54228; text-transform: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smartinsights.com\/ecommerce\/ecommerce-analytics\/ecommerce-conversion-rates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a much lower conversion rate on mobile than on desktop<\/a>. For the latter, total conversion is around 4%. For the former, it\u2019s around 1.5%. This is a shocking statistic considering that, once again, more people spend more time on their mobile devices than on desktop.
